The government has given approval for the Public Enterprise for Managing National Parks (NPCG) to manage the Ulcinj Salina, which is in bankruptcy, for the next six months.
The government adopted a report stating that the lease agreement expired on February 7. NPCG has been managing the Ulcinj company since mid-2015.
In August 2015, a lease agreement was signed with the bankruptcy trustee, with an annual lease fee of 2,400 EUR. In June 2019, the Ulcinj Municipal Assembly declared the Ulcinj Salina a nature park, with NPCG designated as the manager until August 2020. By then, the Municipality of Ulcinj was supposed to establish a company to take over the management.
Since the management company has not yet been formed, NPCG continues to perform these duties. The lease agreement allows for the engagement of 21 former Salina workers to help implement planned activities and preserve natural values.
The formation of a company to manage the Salina is still under negotiation, with differing views on the management models. Although Ulcinj’s mayor, Genci Nimanbegu, intended to establish the new company by the end of last year, this has not yet occurred. The Municipality of Ulcinj and the government are expected to be co-owners of the new company, but the establishment requires government approval.
