Ivan Bulatović, the CEO of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), participated in the panel “Clean Energy Corridors: Drivers of a Secure Future” at the 5th International Conference of the Silk Road Group of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, held in Budva. Bulatović outlined EPCG’s strategic vision for energy transition, emphasizing that Montenegro has a unique opportunity to position itself as a regional leader in clean energy.
He highlighted key projects currently being implemented by EPCG, including the expansion of solar power capacity through the “5000+” initiative, the development of wind farms Gvozd 1 and 2, and investments in hydropower through the construction of the Kruševo Hydroelectric Plant and the complete reconstruction of the Piva Hydroelectric Plant. The collaboration with partners such as KfW Bank and Voith was particularly noted for providing additional reliability in executing these complex projects.
Bulatović also discussed the challenges accompanying the transition, especially in preparation for the introduction of European mechanisms such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). He stressed that EPCG is already actively working on the ecological reconstruction of the Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant to ensure its long-term operation in line with European standards.
“This is a pivotal moment for the energy sector. The investments we are making today are not just about electricity production – they determine our energy independence, ecological sustainability, and international standing for decades to come,” said Bulatović.
By participating in this forum, EPCG further affirms its role as a reliable partner in regional and European integration, with a clear focus on green energy, system modernization, and involving local communities in the energy transition process.
