Montenegro technology company DeepMark has been selected for Y Combinator, placing the startup in an international technology and venture network as it develops tools for verifying AI-generated voices and other synthetic content. The company is focused on technology designed to establish the identity and authenticity of synthetic audio and other AI-generated material. The market is gaining importance as generative artificial intelligence makes audio manipulation more accessible and increasingly difficult to identify.
DeepMark received €33,392 from Montenegro’s Innovation Fund in 2023 as early-stage support. In 2025, it secured a further €200,000 to develop its PatchMark audio-watermarking technology. The Y Combinator selection gives DeepMark a route beyond Montenegro’s domestic startup environment and into an established international technology acceleration and venture network.
The company’s progress also provides a test for Montenegro’s efforts to support innovation, research commercialisation and startup development. Public programmes have increasingly provided funding for innovation, while the ability of supported companies to attract international capital and generate export revenue remains an important measure of their development. DeepMark’s focus on intellectual property and software allows its products to be marketed internationally without dependence on a large domestic market or a manufacturing base. Potential demand for AI-authentication technology includes media companies, financial institutions, communications platforms and governments, which are seeking tools to distinguish authentic voices and content from synthetic copies.
For DeepMark, development now extends from technology towards commercial execution, including integration of its products into larger platforms, securing paying customers and competing with international providers of cybersecurity and AI-authentication technologies. The company’s development will also provide a measure of whether Montenegro’s public innovation funding can support businesses in reaching international markets. Potential outcomes include foreign investment, intellectual-property exports and recurring technology revenue.
