The Coal Mine (RUP) has purchased 14,000 square meters of land at a public auction held by the bankruptcy trustee of the Pljevlja-based company Vektra Jakić. The land, located along the main road to Podgorica, near the Potrlica mine, was acquired for 181,000 euros, or 13 euros per square meter. The land was initially offered at a price of 173,000 euros.
RUP officials stated that the purchase of this land consolidates the area where a business-tourist complex, previously presented to the public, is planned for construction.
The company expects to prepare the necessary documentation by the end of the year and begin project development.
RUP’s executive director, Nemanja Laković, previously mentioned that this location holds great potential for development. He noted that approximately 800,000 vehicles pass through the road leading to Podgorica and Prijepolje during the summer season.
“Given that it’s located on the main highway, where there is heavy tourist traffic, especially in the summer months with travelers heading from Serbia to the Montenegrin coast, this land holds significant commercial value and can be effectively utilized,” Laković said. “In addition to the reclaimed part of the mine, we will have the new flow of the Ćehotina River in this area, according to a project that is urgent and needs to be completed soon. Considering all this, the location is very attractive for investors, and we have already had discussions with potential investors who find it very appealing.”
The complex will cover 90,000 square meters, with construction to be carried out in two phases. The first phase includes modern retail spaces, cafes, and restaurants, while the second phase will feature a cinema, children’s play areas, and a national cuisine establishment. The project will also include a total of 523 parking spaces for cars and 9 for buses.
The development promises to create around 200 new jobs and transform the area into an attractive destination for both tourists and locals. The complex is designed as a mix of commercial spaces, green areas, and modern buildings, contributing to both the ecological and socio-economic development of Pljevlja.
As previously reported by “Vijesti,” RUP is set to begin construction of residential buildings in the spring, with most of the apartments intended for employees of the company.
