President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, emphasized that the beach lease tender is a critical issue that requires full transparency. He shared that he had discussed the matter with the Mayor of Ulcinj and highlighted the concerns among local residents.
“Velika plaža is a major resource for Montenegro, especially for Ulcinj, and for the entire country. When it comes to such important matters, complete and full transparency is necessary,” said Milatović, speaking to reporters after the “Electoral Reform in Montenegro: How to Make the Electoral Process Functional?” conference organized by the Center for Monitoring and Research (CeMI).
Milatović mentioned that he saw in the media that a company, which had registered in Montenegro only after the original tender deadline, was awarded the lease. “Imagine if something like this happened during Milo Đukanović’s regime—how would the opposition react? I ask this question,” he said. He noted that the tender was initially supposed to close by the beginning of March but was extended by about a week. A foreign company registered only after the deadline and was awarded the lease.
He questioned how the current parliamentary majority would have responded if such a situation had occurred under the previous regime. “Once again, I emphasize the need for transparency, especially for such important matters,” Milatović concluded.
