Budva could soon undergo a major urban transformation as MK Group, in collaboration with the Municipality of Budva, unveiled an initiative to redevelop the Budva Riviera into a model of sustainable urban planning inspired by Cannes and Barcelona.
The project envisions an open, green, and modern city where the coastline remains accessible to all residents and visitors. Urban spaces such as parks, squares, and promenades will serve as vibrant public areas, integrating natural landscapes into the city’s identity rather than replacing them.
MK Group has collaborated with London-based architecture firm Make for nearly three years on the conceptual design, emphasizing human-scale streets, tree-lined boulevards, and public access to waterfronts. The plan includes over 100,000 square meters of green spaces, preservation of existing trees, and redevelopment of the Grđevica canal as a multifunctional public space for concerts, events, and seasonal water features.
The initiative also incorporates smart infrastructure for water, energy, and waste management to ensure resilience against seasonal pressures, climate change, and future urban needs.
Key elements of the vision include a pedestrian zone along the beach, a shopping street connecting Slovenska Beach to the existing Mediterranean Street, a 38,000 m² central park, underground parking with over 3,000 spaces, and a congress center with 2,500 seats, aiming to make Budva a year-round destination. The overall built area is planned to be 30% smaller than the current city development plan, with public zones for sports and children’s recreation.
Municipal authorities have not yet finalized the restructuring model, but MK Group’s proposal represents a strategic step toward transforming Budva into a sustainable, accessible, and modern urban destination.
