Beekeeping in Montenegro is an important part of agricultural development, valued not only for its economic benefits but also for its role in preserving ecosystems, biodiversity, and rural identity, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.
At the 22nd Beekeeping Days exhibition in Nikšić, Ministry representative Dragana Šutović highlighted that the government supports the sector through subsidies, training, and promotion of domestic products, aiming to make Montenegrin beekeeping strong, sustainable, and recognizable.
This year’s event gathered 31 exhibitors from across Montenegro and the region, showcasing honey, bee products, and equipment. The Nikšić Beekeepers Association, with around 220 members and 11,000 bee colonies, is among the most significant in the country.
Beekeepers expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s support through donations and study trips, which they say improve honey production quality. The Beekeeping Days event reaffirmed the importance of cooperation, knowledge, and dedication in strengthening this agricultural branch.
