In June 2024, the average gross wage in Montenegro was €1,050, while the average wage before taxes and contributions reached €838. This represents a 0.7% increase from May. Year-over-year, the average net wage grew by 5.4%.
Adjusting for a 0.1% rise in consumer prices from May, real wages increased by 0.6% during the same period, according to Monstat’s report.
Sector-specific wage changes for June revealed:
- Significant wage increases in water supply, waste management, process control, and waste removal (+3.5%).
- Growth in real estate activities (+3.3%).
- Higher wages in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (+2.8%).
- Wage increases in agriculture, forestry, and fishing (+2.2%).
- Manufacturing sector wages rose by 1.6%.
- Administrative and support services (+1.5%).
- Accommodation and food services saw a 1.4% increase.
- Public administration and defense, including compulsory social security, experienced a 1.4% rise.
Other sectors with wage increases included:
- Mining and quarrying, professional, scientific, and technical activities (+1.3%).
- Other service activities (+1.2%).
- Construction (+0.8%).
- Wholesale and retail trade, including repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (+0.7%).
- Arts, entertainment, and recreation (+0.7%).
- Financial and insurance activities (+0.5%).
However, some sectors experienced a decrease in wages:
- Education saw a decline of 0.2%.
- Transportation and storage, information and communication, and health and social protection all recorded a 0.1% drop.
