Montenegro’s state-owned power utility EPCG plans to build the “Kapino Polje B1” solar power plant, one of four facilities planned at the same location near Nikšić. This is evident from the documentation EPCG submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency, requesting approval for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study for the project.
The agency previously decided in June that a full EIA study would be required for the “Kapino Polje B1” project.
In March, the Government of Montenegro issued urban and technical conditions for preparing project documentation for the construction of a renewable energy facility — the “Kapino Polje B1” solar power plant.
According to the technical and technological study prepared by the company Jawel Montenegro from Danilovgrad, the planned “Kapino Polje B1” plant will be a south-oriented monofacial photovoltaic installation with an installed capacity of 11.43 MWp (AC power 36 MVA). The expected annual production during its first year of operation is estimated at around 15.79 GWh.
The facility will occupy an area of 160,122 square meters and will consist of 19,704 photovoltaic modules. The project also includes the construction of an access road, internal service roads for maintenance and fire access, and operational areas within the site.
The power plant will be connected to the grid at the 10 kV level via two medium-voltage cables from two 10/0.8 kV substations (2×2500 kVA) to the 110/10 kV “Kličevo” substation.
EPCG’s broader plan for the Kapino Polje complex includes four solar power plants — “B1”, “B2”, “L1”, and “L2” — with a total investment value of around €35.1 million.
The project will be implemented in four phases.
- Kapino Polje L1: 6.04 MWp capacity, investment value €3.5 million.
- Kapino Polje L2: 6.02 MWp capacity, also valued at €3.5 million. Both plants have secured urban and technical permits, financing, and construction has already begun.
- Kapino Polje B1: 11.43 MWp capacity, investment value €6.6 million.
- Kapino Polje B2: 37.6 MWp capacity, investment value €22.5 million. A tender for the main project design was announced in September.
Together, the Kapino Polje solar complex represents one of EPCG’s most significant renewable energy initiatives, supporting Montenegro’s transition toward cleaner energy production.
