Montenegro and Albania are exploring cooperation on projects of mutual interest, particularly in the Prokletije region and joint activities around Lake Skadar, officials said during a meeting between the two countries’ tourism ministers, Simonida Kordić and Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi.
The ministers discussed ways to enhance tourism collaboration, exchanged information on current sector trends, and outlined priorities and plans for further development.
Special focus was given to opportunities in mountain tourism in the Prokletije area and coordinated efforts around Lake Skadar.
Kumbaro Furxhi noted that many tourists visiting Albania also travel to Montenegro and vice versa, creating potential for longer stays in the region. She added that Albanian travel agencies actively promote tours to Montenegro, supporting joint destination marketing.
Kordić highlighted Montenegro’s current chairmanship of the UN World Tourism Organization’s Europe Commission, emphasizing that regional countries can strengthen cooperation within UNWTO frameworks.
Both ministers agreed on the importance of diversifying tourism offerings, with a focus on cultural heritage and event tourism, as well as addressing visa issues for distant markets to boost tourist arrivals in the region.
