By the end of the year, the 55 MW Gvozd wind farm, financed with €82 million and supported by KfW Bank, will enter trial operation. Construction of Gvozd 2, with a capacity of 21–22 MW, is expected to start early next year, announced EPCG.
Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of EPCG’s Board of Directors, highlighted three key strategic policies currently implemented by EPCG: production of energy where it is consumed, leveraging existing hydro infrastructure to connect solar power plants, and development of battery energy storage systems.
The “produce where you consume” policy is viewed as a winning approach in the energy transition. Hydropower infrastructure offers technical and meteorological compatibility for solar integration, which is complemented by strong development of battery systems, Đukanović said during the EPCG NET symposium in Budva.
The public tender for installing the 8th turbine unit at the Perućica hydropower plant (58 MW) has concluded, with operations expected to begin in 2027.
EPCG completed the 3000+ solar project with 35 MW capacity across 3,500 sites, while the 5000+ project is halfway done with 40 MW serving over 4,000 consumers. The 10,000+ project is expected to start mid-next year.
Preparations are underway for several solar plants including Krupac (50 MW), Štedim (150 MW), four plants at Kapino Polje (totaling 50 MW), and facilities at Željezara with 10 MW already installed out of a planned 30 MW.
The first public call for battery system procurement will soon be announced, covering two systems of 30 MW (120 MWh). EPCG plans five such systems with a total capacity of 600 MWh by 2027.
Đukanović also announced a tender for construction of a tunnel connecting the Krupac and Slano reservoirs, valued at €12 million, part of a broader plan to develop the water resources of the Nikšić field.
Additionally, plans include development of the Liverovići lake and underground waters in Nikšić, with total investments possibly exceeding €1 billion and a potential capacity of 700 MW.
Đukanović emphasized that energy transition is both a major opportunity and a serious risk if challenges are ignored, urging immediate action. The EPCG NET forum brought together experts, investors, and officials from the regional and European energy sectors to discuss sustainable energy and energy security.
