The Minister of Mining, Oil, and Gas and Head of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Admir Šahmanović, attended today’s meeting of the Board of Directors of Electric Power Industry of Montenegro (EPCG), where he discussed current challenges and strategic development paths for the country’s electricity system.
One key topic was the subsidy measure for electricity bills, introduced earlier this year due to regulatory price adjustments. Minister Šahmanović emphasized that continuing this measure is in the interest of citizens and that the government will monitor the situation and respond based on societal needs.
He proposed the continuation of subsidies, focusing on the most vulnerable consumers, while ensuring that electricity prices remain stable in the future and do not become a burden for citizens.
The Minister also highlighted the new Energy Law, which systematically addresses energy poverty and introduces mechanisms for better protection of vulnerable citizens.
Additionally, Šahmanović stressed the importance of continuing key investments aligned with the Green Agenda, particularly in renewable energy, energy storage through battery systems, and the construction of the second submarine cable between Italy and Montenegro, which he described as a strategic project for the country’s energy system.
EPCG’s Board Chairman, Milutin Đukanović, emphasized that the synergy with the Ministry allows for faster and more efficient realization of the company’s strategic goals, while Executive Director Ivan Bulatović noted that all capital projects are being carried out in the interest of the state and citizens.
Minister Šahmanović concluded that the Ministry will continue to support EPCG’s development policies and decisions in line with Montenegro’s strategic energy goals.
