Milutin Đukanović, Chairman of the Board of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, emphasized the significant opportunities that the valorization of Lake Bileća offers to both Montenegro and Republika Srpska. He highlighted the potential for solar power plants on Lake Bileća and announced the formation of a working group to select the best ideas.
During yesterday’s meeting of energy and mining ministers from Montenegro and Republika Srpska, Saša Mujović and Petar Đokić, along with representatives from the two power utilities, it was agreed that starting from the current year, a compensation of around 600,000 euros will be paid to the Municipality of Nikšić for Lake Bileća.
Speaking on “Good Morning Montenegro” on TVCG, Milutin Đukanović stated that this is just the beginning of harnessing the potential of Lake Bileća.
“Since 1994, no one from Montenegro has benefited from Lake Bileća. This is just the beginning of unlocking the potential of Lake Bileća, and yesterday we had a positive meeting with representatives of the Government of Republika Srpska and the management of Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske, and we immediately reached an agreement on this aspect,” said Đukanović.
Đukanović highlighted that the valorization of this potential offers great opportunities for both Montenegro and Republika Srpska. He mentioned the potential for building new energy facilities and the possibility of supplying the entire Bay of Kotor.
“There is also potential for solar power plants on Lake Bileća, reversible power plants, and it has been agreed to form a working group to select the best ideas,” said Đukanović.
He stressed that energy projects are strategic and take over ten years to realize, but it is essential to define the right ideas.
“There are many ideas, and sometimes this can create uncertainty. The formation of this working group, which will include representatives from the governments of Republika Srpska and Montenegro and representatives from the power utilities, will define the best ideas to gradually move towards implementation,” concluded Đukanović.
