A regional meeting was held in Podgorica between representatives of Albania’s Air Traffic Control (ALBCONTROL) and the Air Traffic Control of Serbia and Montenegro (SMATSA). Participants presented the operations of their companies, highlighting numerous challenges that have been overcome, as well as those that are expected in the future, according to a statement from SMATSA.
The meeting emphasized the high level of professionalism and responsibility in the cooperation between the two air traffic control entities, noting that their successful collaboration can always be further enhanced.
Both companies are full members of EUROCONTROL, and communication and working meetings, such as this one, are essential for aligning with high European standards. Since this region is on the path to European integration, the contribution of air traffic control institutions will be crucial in achieving the strategic goals of the countries they represent.
The conclusion of the meeting was that regional cooperation of this kind benefits everyone—passengers, institutions, and air traffic control employees. It was also agreed that such meetings will continue in the future for the mutual benefit of all parties involved.
In 2024, Serbia and Montenegro’s Air Traffic Control, SMATSA, handled 975,587 air operations, while ALBCONTROL managed 398,214 air operations.
