The Ministry of Tourism and the EKO Fund, with the support of the European Union, have allocated subsidies totaling €2.5 million to 15 hotels across the country.
According to the Ministry, these subsidies are part of a program aimed at promoting energy efficiency.
“This marks the successful completion of the most demanding part of an extremely important project, demonstrating that Montenegro can and must follow the path of sustainable development, responsible resource management, and enhancing competitiveness in tourism,” the Ministry of Tourism stated.
Tourism Minister Simonida Kordić emphasized that this is the first concrete step toward transforming the tourism sector, where innovation, modernization, and ecological responsibility intersect with the common goal of strengthening Montenegro’s tourism offerings in a way that benefits both the economy and the environment.
“This European Union grant is not just financial assistance, but also a strong message of trust in our vision and commitment to sustainable development. The support from international partners has enabled us to achieve tangible results: reduced energy consumption in 15 hotels; improved guest comfort, as energy-efficient facilities offer better accommodation conditions; and a reduced carbon footprint, which contributes to preserving natural resources and enhancing Montenegro’s ecological image,” said Kordić.
She added that completing this project is not the end of Montenegro’s commitment to sustainable tourism.
“On the contrary, we are showing that Montenegro can set regional standards when it comes to green and energy-efficient tourism,” Kordić said.
According to the Ministry, the hotels had the opportunity to receive subsidies ranging from €60,000 to €200,000, with special recognition given to those operating year-round, thus contributing to overcoming seasonality issues, as well as those based in the northern part of the country, which is a priority for the current government’s development.
“This event confirms that Montenegro can make significant progress when there is a clear vision, determination, and intersectoral cooperation. The project will continue with the remaining funds, with the support of international partners. The ultimate goal is the efficient use of resources and the modernization of accommodation capacities, thereby improving the overall experience for visitors to Montenegro,” concluded the statement.
